Smart Investment When Buying a Laptop

Writen by Scott Morris

Have you priced a laptop computer lately? Buying a new laptop is a big investment; and just how big of an investment you want to make is entirely up to you. Look in your Sunday newspaper flyers to see countless models on sale each week. Initially selections were made by looking at the specifications and the general appearance. However that’s not the sole criteria any longer. Everyday more and more people are now stepping inside the mobile world. With so many models of laptops now available, how can you be sure about the choice you make? Below are several factors you should consider: CPU (Central Processing Unit), Video Card, hard disk, noise, battery life and RAM (Random Access Memory).

CPU is the main component which determines the performance of your computer and also the heating and the battery life. There is a trade-off between the CPU performance and the battery-life and power consumption (heating). If you want a laptop which would replace a desktop and if you are not planning to travel with it a lot then there are several different offers with desktop CPUs integrated in the laptop main board (such as a P4).

If you are fond of mobility and are going to use your new laptop for your business purposes or school, then you should consider buying a laptop with more suitable CPUs. AMD Athlon can be a solution: Athlon processors are designed for users who are looking for economical solutions, both purchase and usage. Older models of Athlon are no where near Intel Pentium products from the point of performance, and yet new models like 2800+ are potent enough to compete with P4 2.8 GHz.

There is one more model of CPU that many of the customers prefer: Centrino. Centrino is the new attempt of Intel to balance the tradeoff between the performance and mobility issues. With the 2 MB second level cash, the Pentium CPU is modified for the laptop which eases the burden of the CPU and implicitly pulls down the levels of heating and power consumption.

RAM and the graphic card are also two important factors for the quality of the laptop. There are two kinds of RAM on the market: SD RAM and DD RAM. In any case, there is no tradeoff, no comparison: DD RAM is better, and yet, you still have to be careful about the clock specification of the RAM. If you buy a RAM with 3.0 MHz clock speed, you will see the performance improvement it supplies to the whole system. Another thing to consider is that some computers have 512 MB RAM with two slots (256 x 2) which is not very good for the new laptop you are going to buy. Overall, if you want a good laptop, you should consider one equipped with a 3.0 MHz, 512 MB, DD RAM.

There are various video cards on the market today. The first thing you should check is the “ON-Board” specification in the video card. These cards are integrated into the main board and generally use your main RAM as for the video memory. If you are going to use your laptop for general purposes, not for gaming or 3-D design which would require 3D hardware acceleration, these laptops with onboard video card are for you. However, if you are a professional Counter Strike player, you would be disappointed with the screen delays and freezes.

The last technical detail is the hard disk. While buying a hard disk there is a detail which is much more important then the capacity: RPM. Rotation Per Minute determines how fast the data transfer rate is to the CPU to be processed so this specification also plays a huge role while dealing with multimedia stuff.

So if you’re in the market for a new laptop computer, one suggestion is to consider buying a Centrino laptop with an onboard video card with a big RAM if you are planning to use it for school or business purposes and also randomly for movies and music. Nevertheless, Pentium computers with AGP or PCI Express video off-board video cards would give you the performance of a desktop if you don’t mind the weight, noise and the heating of the laptop.

With so many decisions to make, take your time; do your homework and invest wisely.

Custom Gaming Laptops – Five Things You Must Consider When Building a Gaming Laptop

Writen by Laura Alter

Gone are the days when you would have been laughed at if you walked into an all-night LAN party carrying your trusty laptop and expecting to hang with the giant computer towers standing at everyone’s feet. The gaming laptop computers of today sport huge, crisp LCD screens, cutting-edge video cards and full-size keyboards. Not only can these gaming laptop computers hang with the standard clunky computer tower, but they can also be ordered fully custom to meet the exact specifications of any gamer.

Since there are so many customizable components in these laptops, a standard practice has been to create what some call a “system builder.” This is the page where you get to add and subtract components through drop-down menus in order to create the best gaming laptop computer for your needs and your budget. This type of page can be overwhelming to someone just starting the gaming laptop shopping process, but it is very manageable if you take it just one component at a time.

The Gaming Laptop GPU

This is the heart of a gaming laptop computer. The GPU (graphics processing unit) is a component that will make or break your gaming experience. If your GPU isn’t up to snuff, your games won’t play.

Without getting into specific models since they change all the time, the key is that the graphics card not share resources with the computer. A gaming laptop video card must have its own memory on board. Generally speaking, standard off-the-shelf laptops will not have this feature. The two current makers of laptop video cards are nVIDIA and ATI.

Without the Screen, You Don’t Have Much

What good is a gaming laptop without a screen that can actually render your games? Now certainly, you can connect an external monitor, but if you can’t actually play on your gaming laptop without that external monitor, then your laptop isn’t all that mobile.

While the technology and terminology for LCDs (liquid crystal displays) could take up an entire article in itself, there are a few key points to keep in mind when choosing from available LCD options for your new gaming laptop computer: native resolution, aspect ratio, rise and fall time, contrast, viewing angle, and size.

Native Resolution. The native resolution is simply the setting at which your screen will render the clearest images. Since games are constantly in motion, slightly soft edges may not bother most gamers, but keep in mind that while this is your gaming laptop, you will likely also use it for other things like surfing the Internet. If the resolution isn’t comfortable, you aren’t going to enjoy using it.

Aspect Ratio. As you probably know, a movie theater screen and a TV screen have different proportions. Likewise, there are widescreen format gaming laptops and there are laptops that have a standard aspect ratio — like that of a TV. A widescreen format gaming laptop (a 16:10 ratio) has advantages and disadvantages. Many games today do not have a widescreen mode. This means that the game may stretch across the screen and become distorted or you may run it with black bars that fill in the sides. There are ways to get around this, but if you want an out of the box perfect experience, the widescreen format may not be for you.

That said, a widescreen LCD does offer plenty of screen real estate for web surfing and other type of computer activities, and a game played in a wide format setting offers an expansive field of view. For this reason, there are some very loyal widescreen-loving gamers out there.

Do your best to find a balance between current and future technology and what your computer habits are beyond gaming. Even with its limitations, the widescreen format is found on most of the best gaming laptop computers.

Rise and Fall. The phrase ‘rise and fall time’ is used to describe how fast the LCD can respond to changes. In the past, LCDs have been plagued with the inability to render images as fast as computer games can spit them out. This presents a major problem for laptop gamers because if they can’t see the images properly, they can’t play the game properly. This lag can mean the difference between playing to win and barely playing.

Fortunately, gaming laptop LCDs have come a long way and they are only getting better. While once it was impossible to game on a laptop screen, the gaming laptop LCDs of today offer 25 milliseconds or less rise and fall time while generally off-the-shelf laptops have 40 milliseconds or less rise and fall time.

Contrast. If a gaming laptop LCD has poor contrast, that means that the black areas aren’t quite as black as they should be and the white areas aren’t quite as white. This is important to a laptop gamer because you have to see the game properly — as it was intended to be seen — in order to compete effectively. Look for a contrast ratio of 400:1 or higher in a custom gaming laptop computer.

Viewing Angle. This is an often-overlooked LCD feature, but it must be considered if you are building a gaming laptop computer. Many high quality LCDs on the market are difficult to see clearly at any angle other than straight on and at the right height. This can be a big drawback to gaming on a LCD screen because a screen with poor viewing angles won’t allow others to watch the screen as you play and also hurts your view when doing something as simple as adjusting your seating, which can require you to then adjust to position of your laptop screen to see it properly again.

But gaming on a laptop does not mean that you are doomed to have poor viewing angles. There are LCDs on the market that have amazing viewing angles — up to 120 degrees. These screens not only allow gaming onlookers, but they also allow you to use that giant, crisp screen to do things like play movies and even make presentations.

Size. In a gaming laptop computer, size is everything. Most gaming laptops are large, robust pieces of electronics. Having a machine of this stature means you also get to have a large screen. The best gaming laptop computer LCD screens out there are at least 15 inches. A crowd favorite is a 17 inch widescreen (even with the challenges that widescreens present). Largr 19 inch laptop screens are just starting to be talked about with consumers expecting to see 19 inch or even large models on the market in the near future.

The best way to really get a feel for what laptop LCDs are all about is to take a trip to a local box store and play with the LCDs on the display laptops while keeping in mind what you have read here. While these laptops are not custom gaming laptops, you can see what the sizes really look like, what different resolutions look like, and what the viewing angles truly are so you can start to develop your own preferences.

The RAM – What Type and How Much?

The RAM (random access memory) found in laptops is called SODIMM (small outline dual inline memory module). The RAM is responsible for your processing power. If you are shopping for a custom gaming laptop, you will generally be offered DDR2 RAM with the choice of how much you want in your computer. Most high-end games being released today need 1GB of RAM for optimum, lag-free game play. Some people are going with 2GB to ensure that they can run multiple applications along with the game and not experience any slow down in response time. This is a large investment and you want to be able to use this gaming laptop for some time in the future. Most custom laptops are user upgradeable, but this should be left up to professionals.

The CPU – Not Just Mobile Technology

The CPUs (central processing units) found in many custom gaming laptops are identical to those found in desktops. These chips require a great deal of cooling power, which in turn can make your laptop louder than light weight, lower power ultra portables when the fans kick on and it can become somewhat warm to the touch. Don’t be alarmed by this — it is normal. And with these desktop processors comes screaming power! Don’t waste your money on the latest CPU release that likely has an inflated price tag (and that price will likely come down before long). Stick with a current CPU speed that is offered by a reputable custom gaming laptop reseller, and you really can’t go wrong.

The Gaming Laptop Hard Drive

This is the final component to consider when building a gaming laptop. Laptop hard drives come in a variety of speeds and capacities ranging from 4200 to 7200 RPMs and 40 to over 100 GBs. For the most part, this is user preference. Whenever possible, go for a 7200 RPM hard drive, but if you need a capacity not offered in this speed, it’s okay to go for the 5400 RPM drive. Take a look at your current computer, and buy your capacity based on this. Also keep in mind that with many custom gaming laptop manufacturers, you have the ability to upgrade or add another hard drive at a later date.

At the end of the day, gaming laptop computers are all about power. Don’t expect a twelve-pound notebook with a desktop processor, numerous fans, a giant heatsink, and independent video card to last on battery power all that long. But do make sure to enjoy the jawdrops that you’ll get as you walk into your regular LAN party location with your new, screaming-fast gaming laptop computer. Crack that puppy open, fire it up, and stand clear of the drool as you take on your favorite game with fellow gamers gathered around to take in the action. Gaming is not just for desktops anymore!

PDAs and Handheld PCs

Writen by Tim OConnor

This day and age marketing and tools are changing rapidly. Society has become more dependant on technology as we continue to leap forward in time. Any real professional who works in any type of marketing industry needs to be up to date and mobile to be proficient.

For example, a Real Estate markets more than property. He or she markets themselves; therefore being updated and mobile has become a necessity. Mobility for any “self-employed” contractor could make the world their office. PDAs and Handheld PCs are becoming more popular for the “mobile” generation.

HP has made the iPaq line of Handheld PCs which are integrated with WiFi and Bluetooth technology for mobility. Now how does this help with mobility? With WiFi and Bluetooth you could print locally, print wirelessly: send documents, e-mail attachments, and photos from any hotspot.

Now you’re thinking, why do I need something else on my belt? I don’t want to carry my cell and a PDA. Well, you don’t. Instead, you can carry your Address Book, Audio Playback, Calculator, Calendar, Integrated MP3 Player, Mobile Phone, Note Pad, Scheduler, Spreadsheet, Video Playback, Voice Recording, Web Browser, and Word Processor all in the palm of your hand. It’s time to make the world your office! Don’t you agree?

MP3 Player Sales to Soar

Writen by Eddie Miller

Think the iPod and mp3 players are the big craze now? Analysts predict that the current massive numbers of mp3 player sales are merely a fraction of what they will be in four years. Although it is hard to think that these little gems could sell in even larger numbers, the fact is that mp3 players will soon be the primary way of listening to music no matter where you live in the world.

Worldwide in 2004, a total of 26.4 million mp3 players were sold. However, led by Apple’s uber popular iPod mp3 player, those numbers are expected to jump over 370 percent. For those without incredible math skills, that means over 125 million mp3 players are expected to be sold in the year 2009 alone. Staggering numbers indeed and it appears as if it is only the dawn of the mp3 era.

The apparent rise in popularity and demand will be due to the growing video capabilities of these players. No longer will they only play music, but players are now handling video as well. Video capabilities of mp3 players are rising quickly, especially with the drop of the price of flash memory and the increased memory capacity in the small sticks, and this has made them highly sought after alternatives to other types of players.

Needless to say, the age of the mp3 is only beginning to emerge. Many bright, fun new advances and features are on the brink of being in hands worldwide.

The Kick-Off To The Best Rated Laptops Of The Year

Writen by Garry Allen

The best rated laptop award changes not only from year to year, but it can and does change just as quickly from month to month.

Heck, with the major players out there like Dell, IBM, Compaq and HP just to name a few, competition is absolutely fierce!

But one thing is for sure.

This years best rated laptops all seem to have one thing in common. They are all called Apples!

Apple has taken this honor from several leading computing and electronics magazines, and the trend in sales seem to suggest that consumers are feeling the same way about them, as well.

Laptops such as the apple powerbook and ibook have helped apple stand tall among the major players in the computing world.

In 2004 alone, apple announced that it had an overall net income growth of 300 percent. That equals to a profit of $295 million in the last quarter. And if you are a stock holder that certainly must put a smile on your face. I know it does for me, and a number of my friends.

Single computer model sales are also showing the same trend. For instance, the ipod desktop version disappeared off the shelves at the rate of 4.5 million per year. The imac tripled its sales!

Apples share of the international market may still be lagging behind, though. Dell still has top honors with 18 percent of the world market. HP comes in a close second with 16 percent. And in a distant third, IBM brings in 6 percent of the share.

Apple can put a dent in those figures though with the press they have been getting lately. In fact, apple won the 2004 Readers Choice award for the brand with the most impact on an international scale. It had beat out Google, which had been the winner of this award for two years running.

No matter what awards for best rated laptops or what percentages of the world market that apple acquires over the next few years, you can be rest assured that apple will continue to put out the innovative products that they are known for.

Just take a look at the software that is featured on apples laptops and desktop computers. Such admiration of application design as iphoto and itunes make apple so popular just because these programs are so useful and yet they are so easy to use.

See if you can say that about the software that comes standard with most other mp3 players or digital cameras. It’s this powerful but symplistic design that makes apples some of the best rated laptops available today.

One other point I would like to make. In 2006, we will see Apples with intel chips instead of the current IBM chips. Will this improve the performance of the apple laptops and computers, I don’t think so, at least not right away. But it will possibly help apple to grow and expand in the market.

In the future, I believe you will see vast improvements in performance with this change making apple computers and laptops even better than what’s available today.

Laptop or Desktop – Which Computer to Choose?

Writen by Simon Johnson

Traditionally, laptop computers were bought by people who had to be able to take their computer with them when they left the office, such as the salesman visiting a customer. It always used to be the case that buying portability meant a trade-off in terms of power and functionality, so desktop machines were the preferred option for those who didn’t have to travel.

Is this still a genuine trade-off, however? It’s time to re-examine the assumptions to see if they are still true.

Laptops are more expensive than desktops
While this is still true, the price differential is less than it once was, and may not be an overriding factor any longer. On the other hand, if you require a docking station, monitor, keyboard and mouse for use when you’re in the office, the extra cost will be substantial.

Laptops have smaller, low definition screens
Once upon a time the laptop user had to be content with peering at a small screen, with poor resolution, and which was only visible when viewed straight on. Today’s high resolution TFT displays are easily the equivalent of CRTs, to the extent that more and more desktop users are choosing them because they take up so little desk space. Furthermore, a 15″ laptop screen has the equivalent real-estate of a 17″ monitor.

Laptop users must struggle with small keyboards, and a joystick or touchpad instead of a mouse.
To some extent this is still true, although modern touchpad systems are so easy to use compared to those of a few years ago. With a docking station, you can use a full sized keyboard and a normal mouse when you are in the office, and get the best of both worlds.

Laptop memory and disk sizes are limited
While it’s still true that laptops have smaller disks and memory than desktops, the incredible advance in miniaturisation means that even the smallest laptop has disk and memory much larger than the best equipped desktop of a few years ago. Unless you expect to store a lot of photographs, or do video editing, any laptop will have more than sufficient space.

It’s hard to expand laptop hardware
This is still true, but paradoxically it doesn’t matter! Once upon a time, adding a new device or peripheral often meant opening up your computer to install an expansion card. Nowadays, technologies such as USB and Firewire mean that all that is required is to plug your new device in. In this respect, desktops have lost their advantage.

Laptops are difficult to upgrade.
This is true. In order to pack a lot of power into a small space, manufacturers use proprietary hardware and custom connectors. If you expect to want to upgrade your disk, add extra memory, or even replace the motherboard, a desktop is still the best choice. Many users, however, would never do these things, so for them the distinction is unimportant.

Laptop data doesn’t get backed up
Because laptops are typically taken home at night, they are not connected to the office network, so it is impossible for the IT department to include them in overnight backups. It is important that proper procedures are put in place to ensure that important data is replicated onto a server at regular intervals.

Laptops are easier to steal
Unfortunately this will always be true, a portable device, removed from the security of the office, is an easy target for thieves.

In conclusion, the distinction between desktop and laptop is still there, but it is not so important as it once was. If mobility and flexibility are important for you, it is no longer necessary to sacrifice functionality and ease of use.

Maybe You Already Have Wireless and Don’t Know It?

Writen by Tony Fitz

More and more laptops and desktop computers are coming pre-equipped with wireless networking devices — it’s so cheap that they might as well put it in, to have another thing to list in the system specifications. It is easy to tell if a desktop computer has wireless enabled. Have a look at the rear panel for a small antenna. If its there then you have wireless. Laptops a much more difficult to diagnose.

If you’re anything like me, though, you probably don’t even know how much memory your computers have, never mind whether any of them came wireless-enabled. When you don’t know what wireless networking is, it’s easy to ignore it in a computer’s specifications, and never take the time to set it up and get it working. Here are some things to look for if you want to check your computer’s wireless capabilities.

Intel Centrino

If your laptop came with something called ‘Intel Centrino mobile technology’, then it’s good news for you! Computer manufacturers seem a little bad at explaining what this technology is or does, but it basically means that your laptop has wireless networking built right in, without you needing to do a thing. It is a marketing name for a combination of the Intel Pentium M processor and Intel’s Pro/Wireless card.

Your computer should have a ‘Centrino’ sticker on it somewhere if it is Centrino enabled. If you think you might have taken the sticker off, you can check the name of your processor by right clicking the My Computer icon on your desktop (or in the Start Menu) and choosing Properties from the menu that appears. Take a look at what it says after the word ‘Computer’ on this screen.

If you’re interested, Centrino technology also increases battery life and allows computers to be smaller. Don’t worry, though, if you didn’t buy a Centrino laptop — as long as your laptop has a free card slot, installing wireless on it will be no trouble.

Desktop Computers

If you’re not sure whether your desktop computer has a wireless connection, the easiest thing to do is to turn it around and look at it. If a wireless connection is present, you should usually be able to see a small aerial sticking out of the back of the computer, towards the bottom.

If there’s nothing there, then it’s still possible that you have a wireless device in the computer, especially if you bought it recently and you think you do. It’s not a good idea to try to open up your computer just to check something, though, so you should probably try and figure it out using Windows.

Checking in Windows

Instead of fiddling around with your computer hardware to see what you’ve got, you can check easily enough using Windows’ Device Manager. To use it, right click My Computer, and choose Manage from that menu. Now click Device Manager.

You should see a list of all the different kinds of things you can install on your computer. Take a look under ‘Network adapters’. Ignore anything that says ‘10/100′ or ‘Ethernet’ — they’re normal network connections, but not wireless ones. If there’s anything else there, it could be a wireless device.

If you think you have a wireless device, but it has a yellow warning sign next to its name in the Device Manager, you should take a look at it to see what’s wrong by double clicking its name. Windows should tell you why the device is not working at the moment, and may suggest that you go through its troubleshooter program. Do that before you do anything else.

If it turns out to be a driver problem, you should insert the drivers CD that came with your computer. Of course, as is always the way, you probably won’t be able to find that CD — but don’t worry, you should be able to find drivers online. First, you should look on the website of the computer’s manufacturer, and then you should try searching for the name that the wireless device had in Device Manager.

Of course, you might find after all this that you don’t have a wireless device after all. Hard luck. It’s better to figure that out now than to buy wireless equipment and then realise you had some already, though, isn’t it? Of course, even if you did find a wireless device in one of your computers, you probably still need more. Don’t worry either way — they’re getting cheaper all the time!

Notebook Computers in the Age of the Internet

Writen by Frances Coleman

Everyone knows that our world cannot exist without computers. Ever tried to make a purchase at a convenience store when their computers are down, ever waited for someone to make change when their register computer is down, or have you ever tried to find a book in a library when the system is down? If you have ever experienced one of these inconveniences, you know that our world hinges on whether or not our computers are working.

Remember when you told your teacher that the dog ate your homework? Did she believe you? Probably not. Now the excuse is my computer crashed, my printer wouldn’t print, or we were out of ink. Even kids rely on computers to do their schoolwork. The days of pen and pencils are almost over. In fact most students know more about computers than their teachers or parents. They don’t even remember a time without computers.

As computers become more and more intuitive and powerful, we must proceed with them. If you are still among the population that resents the encroachment of the computer, think about this scenario. If Eve in the Garden of Eden had access to the Internet, she could have looked up information about snakes. She would have found out that they have forked tongues and an evil reputation. Instead of listening to the snake’s lies, she would have thrashed him with a tree branch. Think how much better our world would be now.

The best present any graduate can get this June is a desktop computer or a laptop. In my day, girls were given matching luggage to take their clothes to school. Yes, I know I am dating myself, but I do have a point. Today buy your child a computer and let them take their clothes is a paper sack. They don’t care; an old gym bag will do. I know; schools have computer labs, but they are always full. Wouldn’t you rather your son or particularly your daughter not be out of the dorm or apartment working on projects or papers? Also, when your newly graduated senior has moved away to school, e-mail will become your best friend. Even if you hate computers, you will learn to love them because they will become your link to your child. The nest will never be empty as long as you have e-mail.

Computers are links to the outside world. The world has never been more accessible or smaller. You have to keep up or you will be left behind and who wants to be the last straggler on the planet? Not me!

After years as an educator and more degrees than she can count, Frances Coleman now writes professionally. She is a prolific reader with an advanced degree in research techniques. See her review of notebook computers.

iPod Shortages During Holidays

Writen by Eddie Miller

Even though the holiday season is still a little ways off, retailers are already reporting that shortages of Apple’s uber popular iPod mp3 player are very likely. As has been a problem with iPod’s, especially with the popular iPod Nano being released and the video enabled iPod hitting shelves, is that there simply aren’t enough of them. Apple can’t make them fast enough to meet the ridiculously high demand.

As Businessweek reports, “”All iPods are in very tight supply, and Apple isn’t filling 100% of its orders from us by any means,” says Charlie Tebele, president of Manhattan-based RCS Experience. And Crutchfield’s Anderson says Apple typically ships less than 30% of what the retailer requests each week. The Charlottesville (Va.)-based company put in an order for $3 million worth of iPod nanos after the product was released, and the order still hasn’t been nearly filled. It currently has $4 million of all iPod models on order.”

The question of where there will be shortages isn’t really a question at all, predict most analysts. Shortages are practically guaranteed. The only question at this point is how bad the shortages will be. No one knows how many stores will sell out and have barren shelves when shoppers walk in looking for an iPod to buy as a gift for the holidays. Needless to say, it would be well advised to head out and buy that gift as soon as possible rather than wait until the holiday rush.

Make Your Documents Portable With A PIM Agendus Professional V9.0 Manager

Writen by Rene Tse

Many new Symbian OS and Palm OS users may be unaware that an application called PIM or personal information manager comes built in with ROM on every Palm OS device or Symbian OS. I promise that my article presents agendus professional v9.0 in a clear, concise and friendly manner. You leave this article all smarter for. I’ve tested out these applications in the real world as a voice recognition training coach. I have many corporate clients as well is physically impaired clients. I have been teaching Dragon naturally speaking software to many efficient executive assistants who no longer can type using their wrist due to severe carpal tunnels syndrome.

What Is ROM?

Every Palm OS or Symbian OS device uses what is called ROM, so folks can input: their personal contact information, memos, to do list, appointments, e-mails, and the day’s agenda into their mobile device.

You wonder if the ROM programs were built in the medieval torture chamber. What I find frustrating is that the built in standard PIM applications are atrocious for writing important memos, retrieving a contact for my contact list and looking up an appointment . That’s why many Palm OS and Symbian OS users end up buying a PIM enhancer. If each application represents a person playing an instrument in a symphony orchestra, each instrument place their own tune forgetting to follow the song on the play sheet. That’s what it’s like if you try to integrate the personal information manager applications without a PIM enhancer.

Choosing a ROM Application Enhancer That Works Seamlessly with Your Palm OS or Symbian OS

Iambie agendus is an economical personal information manager that will leave you feeling calm and relaxed after you’ve installed it. You’ll appreciate how one program will ebb and flow to the next with ease. Spend a great deal more time interacting with your clients and friends instead of getting irritated with the standard PIM application that comes with every Palm OS or Symbian OS device. The Iambie agendus professional v9.0 is only $39.99 available at http://www.iambic.com. I have tested other personal information manager enhancers and none of them come close to the Iambie agendus professional v9.0.

The terms and acronyms these Pocket PC companies throw around were at first difficult concepts to grasp, like learning a foreign language. Quite simply, PIM applications allows you and I to view your calendar, program a reminder to yourself that your client’s birthday is coming up, group people by assigning a color to them and much more.

The process of working with the Iambie agendus is not necessarily pain-free as you will need to be patient with yourself during the initial stages of getting to know the software. But done consciously with the right motivation, you’ll do well. The Palm OS or Symbian OS PIM agendus professional v9.0 enhancer is rich with features to satisfy even the most complex tasks. The real usefulness of my agendas Pro is being able to access my personal information manager PIM data right away. You can add the agendas Pro to your Palm or Symbian device as it uses the same PIM applications. If re entering all your data is one of your weak areas, you’ll appreciate the agendas pro even more. It’s not necessary.

Traveling Overseas with the Agendas Pro

I was able to keep track of all the international time changes while I was in Turkey last month for a one month assignment. Using the agendas Pro allows me to check the weather back home where my family is. Since I have the e-mail,address, phone number, home address and the name of my wife stored on my Palm OS, when I wanted to call home I simply open up the clock, check the local time, check the local weather, and with a few clicks I simply made the call to her saying: “Good morning Nadine, are you the middle of a heat wave?”

Learning to use the PIM enhancement software can either be a long or short process. However, you can make it productive by putting your knowledge and goals into your Palm OS device. Like so many Palm OS instruction manuals, that doesn’t translate into anything of the average person can understand, the Iambie agendus will delight you with its seamless interface.

Essential Tips to Get the Most Out Of Your Agendas Pro

On a typical Palm OS or Symbian OS device, you have a date book and to do functions which are also known as the calendar. Since my days are filled with appointments for voice recognition training sessions, one handy feature with the agendas Pro is that if I have an opening between 1:30 PM to 4 PM, it will show me this on the screen. Showing me I have an interval of free time. As well, the appointments I have already attended will be crossed off.

Since I’m a very visual person, I found it helpful to create a template with different color pie charts to get a quick glance of my day showing what activities and meetings I have scheduled for that day.

When I look up a contact for example, I will tap and hold a client’s name, I can tap one more time and get the history of my clients mental condition and see what physical impairment he or she has before I plan my next consultation. In addition, I can call up my client in an instant to make an appointment, I can pull up the to do list to assign the next set of lessons to her, and I can than e-mail her with just one more tap. When I visited Turkey, many locals were often curious to see photos of my clients, where I live, my office, etc. It’s very easy to assign an icon to my client. I’m also able to assign a picture of my client next to her name. For only $9.95, I can purchase Agendus Palm Icon Professional Collection includes 2,400+ color icons. I can assign contacts to fun face icons. As well, I’ve also learned to assign a happy face expression avatar to a to do list if it’s something I really like doing. As well, I also learned to assign a confused avatar face to a to do list and I dread doing.

Since I am not familiar with the area where I worked in Turkey, I tapped and held my client’s office address and called out my map and found an easy route to get there from my hotel room. Included in the agendas Pro, you can access any major city in the world with the mobile city maps. Please click on this web site: http://www.iambic.com/select/default.asp?itemid=135 and download a free map of Berlin to get an idea how detailed and thorough this mobile map is. I was amazed at how fast the mobile map loaded on my Palm OS device. By holding down the day, week, time, month or year, I can view my calendar 16 different ways with the entire screen or using the split screen function.

Instead of having to wait until I get back to my hotel room which I had to do a few years ago, I can now view my to do list and appointments for the day using icons I’ve assigned to them instantly.

I can use of full-screen photo as my background wallpaper or I can customize wallpaper to anything I want. For just an extra fee of $5.95, I can download up to 90 unique wallpapers which have images such as: the pink Rose, explosions of light, fun geometric shapes, the solar system, planets, snakes, tigers, trees, butterflies, the sky, starfish swimming in the ocean, and much more.

I can be quite forgetful especially at the end of the day when I’ve seen five clients. I depend on the alarm feature, to bing me for the next priority of appointments.

Since I have the privilege of working with so many of my keen students, I make a practice to send each client of mine a special CD of their choice. The first thing I ask, when I see a new client is what their favorite artist or band is? I can spend an entire day at Virgin records looking for CDs that my clients have chosen. I simply hold out my Treo 650 and snapped the picture of that CD. I store that picture. At the end of the year, in October, I tapped my device and access to do list of buying 100 CDs for Christmas. They are surprised and at the same time feel grateful that their business to me is appreicated. I synchronize this data onto my desktop PC at home, and I simply go online to Amazon.com and by all the CDs that I took pictures of.

I’m also not good at remembering anniversaries, birthdays, and special events. Since I already purchased 2500 icons, I would assign a birthday cake icon to my client’s birthday. Then I would add it to my contact. There is also a barbershop candy cane icon that I assign one time at the end of each month to remind myself I need to visit my barber for a haircut. I’ve also tried using the attention grabber function to either play a tone, play a MP3 file or vibrate; to alert me of an upcoming appointment, dinner engagement, or conference call with a client.

A Great Traveling Companion

With the agendas Pro v9.0 installed on my Treo 650 device, I found it has become indispensable! Try the 3-Day free trial to see for yourself if this PIM enhancer will make your life more organized and stress free. Currently, www.iambic.com is encouraging you to purchase $50 worth of software, so they can send you a 16 ounce coffee mug for free. Looking back when I travelled to Europe to teach voice-recognition to a group of disabled professionals, I’m not sure how I survived those trips with carrying around a 10 pound leather bound day timer. I also found the support at www.iambic.com to be very helpful. If you would like to listen to audio books, consider the advantages of an MP3 cell phone.
